Child dies at hotel

PERKINS TWP. — Authorities are investigating a child's death that occurred Wednesday morning at the Sandusky-area Great Wolf Lodge. A Perkins police document authored by Capt. Martin Curran details what allegedly happened: • Just before 9 a.m., Perkins police officers and firefighters responded to a medical emergency involving an unresponsive 6-year-old child at a hotel room within Great Wolf Lodge. • "Upon arrival, Great Wolf Lodge staff had already initiated life-saving measures, which were immediately taken over by first responders." • Despite these efforts, the child was pronounced deceased at Firelands Regional Medical Center. • "Preliminary information suggests the child had pre-existing medical conditions that may have contributed to the incident." • Other than the age, authorities did not release any other identifying information about this child. The incident remains under investigation. An autopsy will be conducted by the Lucas County coroner's office to determine the official cause of death.
