Sunset celebration on the horizon

SANDUSKY — This summer, Sandusky invites residents and visitors alike to experience the magic of its world-class sunsets in a whole new way. Introducing the Sandusky Sunset Celebration: an open invitation to gather at the water's edge, take in the view and wave goodbye to the sun together. Starting Wednesday, June 11 and continuing weekly on Wednesdays through Aug. 27, the Sandusky Sunset Celebration will take place at the north end of the Jackson Street Pier, 221 W. Shoreline Drive, at sunset. Each evening will feature a local musician and performer to enhance the atmosphere as sailboats race across the bay in the background, courtesy of the Sandusky Sailing Club's Wednesday Night Races. This pilot program is more of a vibe than an event. It's about creating an opportunity to slow down, come together and enjoy the arts and nature against the stunning backdrop of Sandusky Bay." The Sandusky Sunset Celebration is produced by the Greater Sandusky Partnership in collaboration with the city of Sandusky's public arts and culture commission, which awarded the project funding through its new 2025 cultural programming grant. "The public arts and culture commission created a 2025 cultural programming grant fund to support the creation of new or expanded cultural programming in the city, such as performing arts," city chief planner Arin Blair said. "This event is exactly the type of program they had in mind when creating the grant. It's leading to new ways for the community to gather and enjoy the arts and expanding the number of artists whose livelihood is supported in the city of Sandusky."
