PREP ROUNDUP: Sailors beat PC, improve to 6-2 in Bay

PORT CLINTON — Vermilion won its second Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division baseball game in two days, defeating Port Clinton 14-2 on Tuesday. The Sailors, who defeated Margaretta on Monday, improved to 9-5 overall and 6-2 in the Bay. Vermilion had only five hits against the Redskins but drew 11 walks against three PC pitchers. The Sailors blew it open with seven runs in the third inning. Will Matheson drove in three runs and scored twice for Vermilion. Codey Schwarck also had two RBI and scored twice. Morgan Wiechman set a meet record in the 3200 meters, winning in 11:20.62. Wiechman broke her own record, set last year, by 21 seconds. She also won the 1600 in 5:17.54. The Redskins' 4x200 relay also set a meet record. Audrey Rohrer, Addisyn Mooney, Shianne Lieske and Alexis Shelton were timed in 1:47.38. Shelton won the 100 in 12.56. PC's Michaela Stork swept the girls weight events, winning the discus (123-10) and shot put (34-0.50). Oak Harbor's boys (111 points) and girls (116) ran away with the team titles in the four-team event. Margaretta sweeps tri-meet CASTALIA — Margaretta's boys (82 points) and girls (73) swept a tri-meet against Northwood and Fremont St. Joseph. The Polar Bears' Jace Berg, Lillian Belak and Ava Dickman each won two individual events for Margaretta. Berg won the boys shot put (48-7) and discus (153-10). Belak won the girls 110 hurdles (17.70) and 300 hurdles (50.46). Dickman won the girls shot put (35-0.50) and discus (125-10). SCHEDULES, POLLS Huron-Edison moved to May 13Most area high school sports events scheduled for Tuesday were wiped off the board due to rain and muddy fields. Among the games that have been rescheduled is the Huron-Edison baseball game. That game now will be played next Tuesday at Campbell-Klein Field in Huron. Edison can all but wrap up the SBC Bay Division title with a win. The Chargers are 16-1 overall and 7-0 in the Bay with three division games remaining. Edison, which has won eight straight games, visits Port Clinton on Friday. Huron, which has lost three of its last four games, is 10-7, 4-2. The Tigers host Margaretta on Wednesday and host Perkins on Thursday. Edison tied for No. 1 in Div. V pollEdison is tied for No. 1 in Division V in this week's Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association poll. Edison (16-1) shares the top spot with Apple Creek Waynedale (16-0). The Chargers fell to the Golden Bears in extra innings of the Division III state championship game in 2022. So far this season, Edison has wins over Division VII No. 2 Tiffin Calvert (13-3) and Seneca East and Huron, which have been ranked in Division VI. Top-ranked teams this week include Cincinnati Moeller (Div. I), Amherst (Div. II), Vandalia Butler (Div. III), Plain City Jonathan Alder (Div. IV), Berlin Hiland (Div. VI) and Minster (Div. VII).
