PREP ROUNDUP: Clyde baseball, softball post wins

SANDUSKY — Gavyn Boggs singled in the bottom of the ninth inning to score Mason Flewelling, lifting the Clyde baseball team to a 9-8 non-league win over Elyria Catholic on Thursday at Sports Force Parks. Flewelling walked with one out before Dawson Jeffrey was intentionally walked. After fouling off a ball, Boggs singled into center field to score Flewelling and improve the Fliers to 6-10 this season. Clyde took a 7-6 lead into the seventh inning, but the Panthers knotted the game. In the eighth inning, Elyria Catholic scored only for the Fliers to respond. After two quick outs, Adam Young and Nico Carroll each singled to give the Fliers a chance. Clyde tied the game at 8 when Deacon Brown singled. Young finished with a triple, two singles, two runs scored and two runs batted in. Brown added a double, two singles, a run scored and a RBI while Jonathan Lantz and Kameron Shortridge each had a single, double and run scored. Boggs also had two singles. Flewelling doubled, scored twice, and registered two RBI. Joshua Swartz lined a double and had a RBI for Clyde. Lantz pitched the first seven innings, allowing three earned runs. The Truckers (10-3) led just 3-1 after four innings, but scored four runs in the fifth, five runs in the sixth, and seven more runs in the seventh. Wesley Shupe laced four singles and tallied three runs batted in for Norwalk. Avery Scheel registered a double, two singles, three runs scored, two RBI and three walks while Brady Singer had three singles, four runs scored and three RBI. Noah Helton doubled, singled, scored three times and drove in a run for the Fliers. Landon Ferkel singled twice and scored while Carter Harp laced a double and scored twice. Tyler Norwood went the final 5 1/3 innings for the win, allowing two earned runs. Luke Metcalf got the final five outs, allowing one hit. Andres drove in two runs and scored twice while Long had a run scored and a RBI for Clyde (16-5, 7-0 SBC Lake). Ariah Farrar singled, doubled and had two RBI while Mya Stiefel registered two singles and contributed two RBI. Also for the Fliers, Vanessa West drove in two runs and Taitum Jeffrey scored twice. Jeffrey picked up the win in the circle. She gave up four hits while walking one and striking out nine.
