Cedar Point changes ride-height requirements

SANDUSKY — Those taking a deep dive into the intricacies of ride requirements will see that Cedar Point is changing some of the ride-height requirements for select attractions in 2025. Regulations from the government, insurance companies and ride manufacturers change at times that ride requirements need to be adjusted to keep up with the times. For example, when Kings Dominion in Virginia opened Rapterra this year with a 48-inch (4-foot) height requirement, it caused other parks in the industry to go back to the manufacturer, Bolliger & Mabillard, to see if their rides could be adjusted. As a result, Holiday World lowered its height requirement for Thunderbird from 52 inches (4.3 feet) to 48 (4 feet) inches. It made the announcement on April Fool's Day with a clever video campaign that went viral. The big question is this: Would older rides, like GateKeeper, from the same manufacturer be cleared for lower ride height requirements in 2025? Currently, the ride requires guests to be 52 (4.3 feet) inches tall. A Cedar Point representative confirmed the following attractions will see ride height requirements change this season when the park reopens May 3: Iron Dragon • 2024 — 48 inches (4 feet) to ride • 2025 — 42 inches (3.5 feet) to ride SlingShot • 2024 — Guests must be between 48 inches (4 feet) tall and 79 inches (6.6 feet) tall to ride. • 2025 — Guests must be between 44 inches (3.6 feet) tall and 79 inches (6.6 feet) tall to ride. Troika • 2024 — 50 inches (4.2 feet) tall to ride alone or 42 inches (3.5 feet) tall and accompanied by a supervising companion • 2025 — 54 inches (4.5 feet) tall to ride alone or 42 inches (3.5 feet) tall and accompanied by a supervising companion When's it open? For guests planning their trip to Cedar Point, you may also want to take note of the scheduled rides opening throughout the day. For eligible guests, select attractions are open for early entry an hour before the park opens. For families with kids, the Planet Snoopy area will not open until May 24, however, Kiddie Kingdom and Camp Snoopy are both open. The lone remaining water attraction in the park, Thunder Canyon, opens May 24 through Aug. 17. There is also a list of rides that do not open until 11 a.m. each day: Cedar Creek Mine Ride, Power Tower, Rougarou, Skyhawk, Wave Swinger and WindSeeker SlingShot, the upcharge attraction, and Gemini open at noon each day.
