More events at Ida Rupp

PORT CLINTON — Spring has sprung, and there's no shortfall of fun things raining down at Ida Rupp Public Library in Port Clinton and Marblehead Peninsula branch. Classic storytimes, educational events and community gatherings are ahead in April. Those who like yoga can come every Wednesday in the morning from 9:15-10:30 a.m., at Ida Rupp or from 10-11 a.m., at the Marblehead branch for two different yoga classes ideal for those of all yoga skill levels. Comfy clothing is encouraged and registration is required for the latter of the two. The April calendar for all locations of the Ida Rupp Public Library includes the following. Today • Afternoon Story Time at Ida Rupp Public Library: From 2:30-3:15 p.m. If you can't make it to our regular Tuesday morning story time, this "redo" is for you. In case you have older children who need to be picked up from school, we plan to be wrapped up in time. We will be using the same books, songs, activities and themes from this Tuesday's story time. Friday • Cherry Blossom Painting at Ida Rupp Public Library: From 2-3 p.m. It's springtime and that means flowers are blooming. Kids in grades 4-12 can create their own Cherry Blossom Tree painting in the Children's Programming Room at Ida Rupp Public Library. All supplies will be provided. Saturday • Imagination Hour at Ida Rupp Public Library: From 3-4 p.m. Children are invited to spend an hour using their imagination and socializing with others. We will supply toys, a marble racetrack, blocks and puppets. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is not necessary. Monday • Raindrop Sun Catchers at Ida Rupp Public Library: From 3:30-4:30 p.m.; Children ages 3-12 are invited to make beautiful Raindrop Suncatchers while practicing fine motor skills as they sharpen crayons to make wax shavings. The wax is then transformed into captivating suncatchers that are cut out and can hung in windows. No registration necessary, and children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. • Marblehead Peninsula Coffee Hour at Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library: From 10-11 a.m. Join us for free coffee, tea and conversation. The idea behind the coffee hour is to give Peninsula residents and employees a chance to talk with each other in a comfortable and civil setting. This is an open, free-form conversation event for adults. Meet your neighbors or network with other organizations. Our special guest this month is Cari Buehler, Danbury Schools superintendent. No registration needed. • Otterbein Book Club at Otterbein Marblehead SeniorLife presented by Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library: From 1-2 p.m.; This book club is open to anyone. You do not need to be a resident of Otterbein to participate. This month's book is, "Master Slave Husband Wife," by Ilyon Woo. Copies of the book are available at the library and at the Otterbein library. No registration needed. Tuesday • Story Time at Ida Rupp Public Library: From 10:30-11:30 a.m. Bring your little ones to the children's programming room to enjoy some stories, music,movement, and socialization. Playtime afterward is encouraged. No registration required. This week's theme is Earth Day. • Trivia Night at Ida Rupp Public Library: From 5:30-6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to test their knowledge with Trivia Night but make sure your team is ready to play. Teams can be made up of family members, friends, or you can play as an individual. Trivia questions will range from pop culture to school education. All supplies will be provided and no registration is required. Children under 8 need an adult supervisor. • Marblehead Tech Help at Marblehead Peninsula Branch Library. From 3-4 p.m.; For adults who need help with a smartphone, tablet, computer, or other device. Sign up for this 30-minute, one-on-one tech help session. Wednesday • Gentle Yoga with Renee at Ida Rupp Public Library: From 9:15-10:30 a.m. Start your day with a peaceful flow with Yoga Alliance Certified instructor, Renee of Mistic Yoga. All experience levels are welcome. Modifications (including chair adaptation) are easily accommodated for any physical limitations. Adult attendees will work at their own level and capabilities. Bring a mat and wear comfortable clothing, additional straps or props allowed but not required. Please don't eat one hour prior to the class. No registration necessary. • Dungeons & Dragons Jr. at Ida Rupp Public Library: From 4 – 6 p.m.; Kids ages 7-12 are invited to embark on a Dungeons & Dragons adventure at the library. Returning players and new players of any experience level may join. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Thursday, April 24 • Let's Eat: Spicy Rice Cakes at Ida Rupp Public Library: From 4:30-5:30 p.m. This ongoing program helps you to enjoy some delicious foods from other countries. This month we will be trying Spicy Rice Cakes (Tteokbokki) from South Korea. This is a delicious spicy street food that is chewy and savory. We will be having the spicy rice cakes with some mozzarella cheese to cut the heat. Another delicious meal to have with spicy rice cakes is ramen, this meal is called Ra-bokki (ramen + tteokbokki). All supplies will be provided and no registration is needed. Friday, April 25 • Pressed Flower Mason Jar Craft at Ida Rupp Public Library: From 2-3 p.m.; This craft day for adults takes a mason jar into a beautiful votive holder, with delicate pressed flowers. All supplies are provided. Space is limited so registration is required and opens on April 11. You may register online or by calling the library directly at (419) 732-3212. • Crafting with Magoo– Glass Mosaic Tile Coasters at Ida Rupp Public Library: From 11 a.m. to noon; Celebrate Spring by making a glass mosaic tile coaster with Margaret (Magoo) at this adult craft class. These colorful coasters are fun to put together so celebrate Spring. Registration is required and opens April 11. Saturday, April 26 • Day 1 of Gummi Bears 100th Birthday Celebration at Erie Islands Library: From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. On Sunday, April 27, Haribo is celebrating 100 years of gummi bears. Since we are not open on Sunday, we're having a two-day celebration. On Saturday, April 26 and Monday, April 28, help us to salute this all-time favorite sweet treat. Free packs will be distributed to everyone who comes to the library during open hours. While supply lasts. Monday, April 28 • Small Town PRIDE. Book Club at Ida Rupp Public Library: From 6:30-7:30 p.m. You don't need to drive hours to find others in the LGBTQ+ community. Join us as we come together from small towns to form a book club with lots of pride. The Small Town PRIDE. is a traveling book club, cycling between local small towns each month to enjoy and discuss books written by and/or about LGBTQ+ people. Allies are welcome. Coopies of the book are available at the circulation desk or on the Libby and Hoopla apps.This month we will be reading and discussing "Orlando," by Virginia Woolf. No registration required. An optional carpool leaves from the Harris-Elmore Library at 5:45pm.
