Gundlach Sheet Metal shows off new look

SANDUSKY — They consider the upgrades pretty cool.Gundlach Sheet Metal — a Sandusky-based company specializing in heating, air conditioning, commercial refrigeration, custom sheet metal, fabrication and more — recently finished upgrading a yearlong project to enhance its Columbus Avenue headquarters.Among the most notable additions:• A more optimal layout: Up until recently, Gundlach office employees worked in several different buildings, split up from one another. The enhancements involved relocating all office workers into one remodeled area "so it's more efficient for everyone," company president Roger Gundlach said. The company also created some additional space to host company-wide meetings.• A better traffic pattern: No matter coming or leaving Gundlach, large delivery trucks previously experienced difficulty negotiating narrow roads, such as Division and Wayne streets. And, at times, large trucks backed up onto and blocked Columbus Avenue, causing issues for motorists. But now, with a new dedicated and wide driveway, spanning between the warehouse and Gundlach's buildings, it's eliminated these concerns. "That's a huge safety issue for our company we don't need to worry about anymore, and it makes it a lot safer for everyone," Gundlach said.• A larger space: A 6,200-plus-square-foot warehouse stores Gundlach products for its residential, services and construction departments. These items range from air conditioners to plumbing products.The $1 million task involved city officials providing a $50,000 grant and a tax abatement, discounting and deferring payments over a 10-year period. It ensured Gundlach Sheet Metal, one of Sanduksy's first and longest-standing businesses, founded in 1889, stays in the city for many more years."For over 125 years, the company has been serving the needs and employing the residents of Erie County and, more specifically, Sandusky," city chief development officer Matt Lasko said. "They have proven to be not just a great company with a respected reputation but valued civic partner.
