Wikel throws no-hitter for St. Mary CC

FREMONT — Reid Wikel threw a six-inning no-hitter to lead St. Mary Central Catholic to an 11-1 Sandusky Bay Conference River Division baseball win over Fremont St. Joseph on Friday. Wikel struck out 10 and threw only 62 pitches. He didn't walk a batter as the Panthers improved to 4-0. Wikel went 3 for 3 at the plate with two runs and two batted in. Cayden Wikel and Cullen Dillard each had two hits for the Panthers and Dillard scored twice. SJCC scored its only run in the fifth when its leadoff batter reached on an error and scored on a fielder's choice. SMCC scored three in the first, getting on the board with back-to-back doubles by Cayden and Reid Wikel. SMCC travels to state-ranked Tiffin Calvert on Monday. The Chargers scored the winning run in the fifth inning when Abe Hermes singled with two outs to drive in Bryson Wittmer. Wittmer reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to third on Cole Leimeister's two-out single. Hermes delivered after Wendt was intentionally walked.
