Report: Woman strangled family member

HURON TWP. — An Elyria woman is facing charges after allegedly being involved in a violent situation in Huron Township on March 25. Sara R. Enyart, 33, of the 1200 block of Bell Court, is facing one fourth-degree felony count of strangulation and one misdemeanor count of domestic violence. Just after 7:30 p.m., deputies were called to Kalahari Resorts & Conventions for the report of a domestic violence situation. The caller stated the involved woman left the resort and was walking northbound on Milan Road (U.S. 250), according to an Erie County Sheriff's Office report. A deputy on his way to the call reportedly saw the woman near a car dealership in the 7500 block of Milan Road (U.S. 250) and stopped to speak with her. She was later identified as Enyart. She had an "overwhelmingly strong odor of intoxicating beverages coming from her person," the report states. Enyart claimed deputies "ran up on her" when she was in the hot tub at the resort and her husband insisted that she leave. Stating that no man was going to tell her what to do, she began walking home, according to the report. The reported victim, a family member, said Enyart became highly intoxicated and he asked her to come with him so they could leave the water park. Enyart allegedly became enraged and began verbally assaulting the victim. As resort security escorted the two out of the water park, Enyart reportedly turned on the victim, placed both hands around his throat and choked him. Security was able to coax Enyart into the pair's car, but as the man attempted to pull out of the lot, Enyart allegedly punched him in the side of the face. He put the car in park and Enyart got out and started walking. At that point, the man requested that security alert authorities. After speaking with deputies, the man requested that charges be filed. He allegedly told officials that for the majority of their time together, Enyart had been abusive and he was glad an incident was captured on camera. The report noted that Enyart was previously convicted of involuntary manslaughter. The conviction occurred in Wayne County, West Virginia, according to Erie County Sheriff Paul Sigsworth. Her 2014 conviction in relation to the 2011 death of her then-boyfriend occurred when she was going by the name Sara Worstell. It is unclear what her sentence was. Enyart was taken to Erie County Jail and she has since been released on bond. She pleaded not guilty in Huron Municipal Court. She has a hearing scheduled for 9 a.m. on April 22.
