Building up affordable housing

SANDUSKY — Serving Our Seniors is hosting a builders listening session to gather input from builders about the barriers to constructing small, modest, affordable housing and making it a financially viable niche market. The agency is working to be a catalyst for this type of construction. Its goal is to create housing for Erie County, specifically lower-middle-income, residents who are at least 60 years old and are unable to afford market-rate rent for the long-term. Most importantly, they have no alternative place to live. The expert feedback, from the builders listening session will be used by Serving Our Seniors to develop potential building opportunities, beneficial for local builders and retired individuals in need of modest and affordable housing. Here are details on the event: • When: 4-5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23 • Where: Erie County Office Building, third-floor chambers, 247 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. • More: RSVPs are required no later than April 19. Local elected officials have also been invited to listen to what builders have to say. Serving Our Seniors has invited a selected group of older adults, who report they are currently seeking a small, modest, affordable place to live. Small, sole proprietors/builders are welcome and encouraged to attend. RSVPs are required no later than April 19.
