Report: Huron woman assaulted officer

HURON — A Huron woman is facing a felony charge after allegedly assaulting a police officer. Logan M. Smith, 31, 500 block Cleveland Road W., is facing one fourth-degree felony count of assault on a peace officer. She is additionally charged with three misdemeanors: assault, resisting arrest and domestic violence. Just before 11:30 p.m. on March 23, officers were called to an apartment in the 500 block of Cleveland Road W. for a welfare check on Smith. The caller, a family member of Smith, stated that she was intoxicated and fighting with a different family member, according to a Huron police report. Smith allegedly told the caller that she was going to kill the person she was fighting with before that person killed her. Officers arrived and spoke with Smith at the front door of her apartment. Smith reportedly told officers everything was fine. Officers noted that Smith displayed signs of intoxication. Smith reportedly told officers that the other person they wished to speak with was not at the residence. Officers said they needed to speak with the person because of the nature of the call. When an officer attempted to call the complainant, the other involved person appeared at the door. Officers approached to speak to the person and Smith reportedly shoved the person back into the residence. Officers did allegedly see a "red bloody scratch under (the person's) right eye," the report states. It was then determined that Smith would be arrested, according to the report. Smith allegedly struggled with the arresting officer, and both of them fell to the ground as the officer attempted to pull Smith out of the home. As the officer led Smith to a cruiser, she allegedly became verbally aggressive and punched the officer in his left arm. The blow glanced off of his arm and connected in his chest area. Once she was handcuffed and secured in a cruiser, she reportedly began repeatedly kicking the rear passenger side window. Officers then moved her to a cruiser with window bars. She was then transported to Erie County Jail. Smith was released on an amended bond of $15,000. She was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim and to abstain from drugs and/or alcohol.
