Busy spring season awaits Huron

HURON — Officials representing the parks and recreation department for Huron recently publicized several upcoming community-based events happening this spring. Here's a look at what's on the schedule with statements provided by city officials: Pancake breakfast and Easter egg hunt The annual pancake breakfast with the Easter bunny and egg hunt is scheduled for Saturday, April 12. • The Huron Lions Club Pancake Breakfast will take place from 8 a.m. to noon at the First Presbyterian Church, 225 Williams St., in Huron with a special Michael Mage magic show taking place at 10 a.m. Breakfast is free, and cash donations for the Lions Club will be accepted. • Join the Easter Bunny at the Huron Boat Basin, 330 Main St., at 1 p.m. for the annual egg hunt. This event is open to children ages 2 to 8. Canned food donations will be accepted for the local food pantry. Spring cleaning • The citywide cleanup event returns this year. It's scheduled from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, May 3 at the city's parks and recreation building, 110 Wall St. It's an organized event to clean up the parks and public greenspaces. All are welcome. Clean-up supplies are provided by the Erie County Solid Waste District's Green Bean Trailer. Refreshments will be served. • The citywide garage sale takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 17 at the Huron Boat Basin's west parking lot, 330 Main St. This is the event to buy, sell or trade items. All garage sale spots are $15 with a maximum of two spots that may be purchased. Spaces are limited and treated on a first-come, first-served basis. Pre-registration is required. People can learn more by visiting cityofhuron.org. Beach passes Nickel Plate Beach seasonal parking passes are now available online. A singular pass allows the registered holder the ability to park one licensed vehicle at Nickel Plate Beach during beach hours, dawn to dusk, for the 2025 season from Memorial Day through Labor Day. A seasonal parking pass sells for $25 for residents and $40 for non-residents. A daily pass is also available at the entry gate for $7 a vehicle per day. Youth programs The department will offer seven different sports camps, four art camps, three summer fun camps and Safety Town programs.
