Sandusky Aquatic Center nears completion

Editor's note: The Sandusky Aquatic Center is a multi-million dollar project to construct a new pool at Sandusky High School. Members of the community will have access to the pool at certain times yet to be determined. SANDUSKY — Exciting progress is being made on the Sandusky Aquatic Center, as district leaders recently met with representatives from the Erie County Health Department and Sandusky's government to discuss community access. The three entities are collaborating to promote the facility, finalize public access schedules and define their roles to ensure a smooth and successful opening. This facility will serve as the home for the district's competitive swim team and Swan Club while also supporting the shared goals of the district, health department and city. The district is collaborating closely with the health department to establish a detailed schedule with plans to open the center for community use this June. Once the schedule is approved, district staff members will be informed ensuring seamless operations and adherence to guidelines. The city, health department and school district will promote the community access opportunities. To celebrate the diligence, hard work of many individuals and the completion of the aquatic center, there will be a grand opening event scheduled to take place on the evening of May 27. Community members will have the opportunity to explore the facility and learn about the various programs being offered. Mike Carr, the aquatics center supervisor with the health department, will take the opportunity to highlight the many ways residents can take advantage of this state-of-the-art facility. Through the many phases of this venue, the district has remained committed to three core objectives for the aquatic center: • Supporting district aquatic programs • Providing community programming • Offering swim lessons and water safety education Key features Here's what the new aquatic center will offer: • Expanded six-lane competition swimming pool • New and accessible spectator seating • Renovated entrance, lobby, and family locker room • Updated athletic locker rooms • Additional storage space • There will be a variety of community-based activities promoting health and well-being for Erie County residents.
