Listen up: Rotary Club collecting hearing aids

MILAN — The Milan Rotary Club is now collecting hearing aids and batteries. Monica Klarer, a club representative, offered some insight into why and where locals can drop them off: • The reason: "Our goal is environmental benefit and also service to others. The hearing aids will be sent to Hearing Charities in Kansas City. They are then refurbished and distributed to the needy adults in the U.S. or sent overseas for children and adults with hearing impairments." • The locations: "Just as there are collection boxes for old eyeglasses, we now have boxes to collect old hearing aids and new hearing aid batteries that no longer are needed. Clear plastic, labeled boxes have been placed in local libraries, senior centers, used clothing/home goods centers" and the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky. "The contents will be collected regularly." • The pitch: "We urge citizens to bring their used hearing aids and unneeded brand new batteries to one of the locations."
