Report: Man strangled family member

HURON TWP. — A Defiance man landed in jail on Friday after an alleged domestic incident at a local resort. Noah S. Crigger, 23, of the 4200 block of Christy Road, is facing one fifth-degree felony count of strangulation and one misdemeanor count of domestic violence. At approximately 10:30 p.m. on Friday, deputies were called to a room at a resort in the 7000 block of Kalahari Drive for the report of people arguing and items breaking in the room. When they arrived, they found two men who both advised they had been in a verbal argument, according to an Erie County Sheriff's Office report. The first man deputies spoke to, Crigger, stated he argued with his brother, who had recently gone through a divorce. Crigger said tensions were high, and alcohol was involved. He claimed the two had only pushed and shoved. When asked if he had any injuries, Crigger reportedly said that he was a "big boy," and did not sustain any injuries. Deputies then spoke with the brother who alleged that he was sick of Crigger gossiping but just wanted to be left alone, the report states. The man alleged that his hand was broken but did not know how and later refused medical treatment by EMS. Deputies then spoke with witnesses and then again with Crigger. He claimed his brother punched him in the face so he "put him to sleep," or choked him out. Crigger did not appear to show any signs of being struck but the brother's neck area was observed to be red, which correlated with signs of strangulation. Deputies concluded that both men engaged in a fight but that Crigger was the primary aggressor in a domestic violence situation. He was arrested and incarcerated in Erie County Jail under a $25,000 bond. As of Sunday, he has been released. Crigger has an 8:30 a.m. arraignment scheduled for Tuesday according to the report.
