Woman faces felony OVI

PERKINS TWP. — A Sandusky woman is facing charges after an alleged intoxicated driving incident on March 8. Tarah E. Guy, 35, 3500 block Spencer Ave., is charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony, and OVI, a fourth-degree felony. She is additionally charged with three misdemeanors: failure to comply, leaving the scene of an accident and assured clear distance ahead. Just after 11 p.m. on March 8, officers were at a Columbus Avenue tavern on an unrelated traffic stop when they witnessed a traffic crash at the intersection of Columbus and Strub Road. Guy, driving a black vehicle, reportedly rear-ended a car at the light, according to a Perkins police report. She then had a heated exchange with the driver of the other vehicle. At that point, the other vehicle's passenger exited and began yelling at Guy, who also exited her vehicle. Guy then reportedly reentered her car and sped away toward the other vehicle's passenger. That person jumped out of the way of Guy's vehicle, the report states. Her car hit the passenger door of the other vehicle and bent it forward. Officers then gave chase with lights and sirens activated. Guy reportedly refused to pull over. She drove north on Columbus Avenue then turned right onto Woodlawn Avenue before turning onto Spencer Avenue and pulling into her driveway, the report states. Guy exited her vehicle and was arrested. Officers secured her in a cruiser and called paramedics to check her for injuries. She reportedly claimed to not hear the officer's sirens because of bad hearing. Guy said she did not see their overhead lights due to not having on her glasses. Guy refused to provide a breath sample and was placed under administrative license suspension. Officers discovered that Guy has five previous OVI convictions over the previous 20 years so her misdemeanor charge was elevated to a felony. She was taken to Erie County Jail but has since been released. Guy pleaded not guilty to her charges during a Thursday arraignment in Sandusky Municipal Court.
