Woman impacted thousands of lives

SANDUSKY — A beloved community member who founded a Sandusky legacy business specializing in child care recently passed away. Doris McGookey was 94. In 1973, she, along with her husband Harry C. McGookey established the Kiddie Korral Preschool and Child Development Centers. Their goal was to provide children with love and acceptance. "Doris touched thousands of lives of children and their families in our community," according to a Kiddie Korral social media post. Harry passed away in 2022 at the age of 93. A viewing is planned for 9 a.m. on Saturday until time of Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, OH. A Private family burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements. The original Kiddie Korral facility opened in May 1973 in the 1500 block of Milan Road. Today, Kiddie Korral operates two facilities. One in the 1800 block of E. Perkins Ave. and one in the 300 block of W. Follett St.
