5 arrested after shooting

PERKINS TWP. — Five people were arrested after a Saturday evening argument resulted in gunfire. Here are those arrested and their charges, according to Erie County Jail records: • Dondi S.Y. Bassir, 23, address not listed, is facing charges of felonious assault, discharge of a firearm near prohibited premises and possession of a firearm in liquor permit premises. • Christopher Robinson, 40, address not listed, is charged with felonious assault, discharge of a firearm near prohibited premises, obstructing justice and tampering with evidence. • Shakur A.A. Bassir, 24, address not listed, is charged with complicity to felonious assault. • Christopher J. Elam, 62, address not listed, and Suzannah Crosser, 45, address not listed, are each facing a felony count of tampering with evidence. After a baby shower in a party room at a business in the 3600 block of Hayes Ave. (Ohio 4), an argument broke out between two men. Robinson and Shakur Bassir argued and then came to blows, according to Perkins police Det. Joseph Rotuno. Eventually, Shakur Bassir retreated back into the party room where he reportedly gathered a posse which then exited back into the building's front parking lot. Dondi Bassir produced a firearm and began shooting toward Robinson, who was struck in the foot. Robinson reportedly returned fire, according to Rotuno. Forty to 50 people who were at the party then ran in attempts to get away from the shootout. At least one person ran toward the rear of the property and into a wooded area. That person was later found on Wade Boulevard with what at first appeared to be a gunshot wound to the hand. Officers discovered the person had fallen and severely cut their hand. Law enforcement personnel from Perkins, Sandusky and Huron police, along with the Erie County Sheriff's Office and the state patrol, all responded to the scene. Officers found Robinson near a car, bleeding from a gunshot wound to the foot. He was transported to a local hospital, treated and then taken to jail. Initially, Robinson allegedly provided false information about what occurred but eventually made the admission that he pulled his own firearm and fired back toward the Bassirs, Rotuno said. Elam and Crosser, Robinson's father and stepmother, were charged because they allegedly took Robinson's firearm and hid it. Due to their cooperation with the investigation, they were released after being charged, according to Rotuno. Dondi Bassir and Shakur Bassir initially fled toward the rear of the building, but were found and arrested, according to Rotuno. As of late Sunday, Robinson, Dondi Bassir and Shakur Bassir are all incarcerated in Erie County Jail under no-bond orders issued by Sandusky Municipal Court Judge Erich O'Brien. All three have 9 a.m. arraignments scheduled in court on Monday. Investigation continues Officers returned to the scene after daybreak Sunday in an attempt to locate any other possible firearms or people involved, who may have fled into the woods. Rotuno said neither was located. About a dozen shots were fired during the melee, police said. Shell casings that matched the caliber of Dondi Bassir's and Robinson's guns were found. One other casing that did not match the caliber of those two guns was also found. This led investigators to believe that there is possibly another firearm and shooter that needs to be found. "We had a ton of resources available thanks to all the departments that responded," Rotuno said. "Without them, we would not have been able to make as much progress with this investigation this quickly."
