PREP ROUNDUP: Sandusky girls win bowling sectional

FREMONT — Sandusky's girls bowling team dominated the six baker games to win a Division I sectional Thursday at Plaza Lanes. The Blue Streaks ended up with a total score of 3131, just 13 pins ahead of runner-up Lexington. Sandusky trailed Lexington by 36 pins after the three regulation games before totaling 945 in the baker games. Sandusky senior Jady Voegle rolled games of 165, 201 and 156 for a 522 series, which was second. Voegle's 201 was the high game of the tournament. Ashland's Haley Rowe finished first with a 535. The Streaks' Makayla Popke rolled a 454 series (141, 182, 131) to finish eighth among individuals. Kaelyn Taylor was 29th with a 369. Lexington (3118), Ashland (2968) and Columbian (2703) also advanced as teams to next Thursday's district tournament at Star Lanes at the Harbor in Port Clinton. Norwalk finished 10th in the 12-team field with a 2187. Clyde's Andrea Emery was 13th win a 429 series. SWIMMING Biehl, West and Morgan advance to finals CANTON — Margaretta senior Alayna Biehl advanced to Friday's Division II state swimming finals by finishing eighth in the 50-yard freestyle and 14th in the 100 free preliminaries Thursday. In the 50, Biehl touched the wall in 24.49 seconds. Less than a half of a second separated her from fourth place qualifier Isabella Pribonic from Newark Catholic. In the 100, she finished with a time of 53.95 seconds. Like the 50, less than a full second separated Biehl's 14th-place finish and seventh-place Rachel Potter from Hathaway Brown. Perkins junior Ella West advanced as well in the 100 breaststroke. She took 14th in a time of 1:07.30 and will face one more time this year. Eli Morgan from Clyde moved on in the 500 free. He took ninth in a time of 4:46.72. Morgan also competed in the 200 free, finishing in 20th. He touched the wall in 1:46.61. Huron's boys 200 free relay set a school record in 1:30.76 to finish 16th and advance to Friday's finals. Swimming for the Tigers were Carter Schlessman, Scott Allen, TJ Murray and Jason Lenczyk. Huron's boys 400 free relay finished 21st in a school-record time of 3:24.60. Perkins' Katie Skavnak competed in the girls 100, touching the wall in 57.14 seconds. Derek Barnhill from Port Clinton was in the boys 500 free, taking 26th in a time of 4:59.78. Lenczyk was 30th in the same race, finishing in 5:01.20. Also in prelim races, Carson Miller from Margaretta finished in 29th in the boys 50 free in 22.54 seconds. Miller was 30th in the 100 with a time of 49.79. Vermilion's Cole Rini was 23rd in the 100 breast in 1:01.08. In the 200 free relay, Perkins' girls took 17th, hitting the wall in a time of 1:42.89, just missing on advancing. Drury competes in state diving CANTON — Perkins freshman Amiya Drury finished 12th at the Division II diving state championships Wednesday. Drury tallied a score of 335.25. The state champion was Ella Borstelman from Napoleon with a score of 431.75.
