ALL-SBC GIRLS: Koenig, Heck, Evarts named players of year

For her efforts in helping lead Norwalk to its first-ever league championship in program history, Abby Koenig was named the SBC Lake Division Most Outstanding Performer. That and the rest of the league honors were announced Tuesday. Through 20 games, Koenig was averaging 15.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.5 steals for Norwalk, who split the league title with Bellevue. Teammate Emmie Leber was also a first-team pick for the Truckers after putting up 13.9 points and 7.8 rebounds a game. Bellevue's Hailey Rees and Kaitlyn Turinsky were all first-team selections. Rees, who was the Lake MOP the last two years, averages 15.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.2 steals per game while Turinsky turns in 11.9 points, 10.2 rebounds and 3.9 blocks a game. Perkins' Camryn VanVlerah rounded out the first team. She averages 19.5 points and 7.0 rebounds a contest. Margaretta's Raegan Heck was named the Bay Division Most Outstanding Performer. Heck averaged 9.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in just 10 contests this season for the Polar Bears after battling injuries. She was joined by teammate Cassidy Lane, who averages a team-high 10.9 points and 8.9 rebounds per contest. Vermilion's Claire Bartlome, Huron's Jessica Brown and Willard's Reese Bedingfield fill out the Bay first team. Bartlome put up 14.4 points and five rebounds a game while Brown contributes 10.8 points, 4.4 assists and 4.2 rebounds for the Tigers. Bedingfield led Willard's eight-girl team with 14.1 points and 9.7 rebounds a game before suffering a season-ending injury. In the River, Gibsonburg sophomore Elly Evarts repeated as MOP. She averaged 22.3 points, 7.9 rebounds and 5.1 steals a game for the league champion Golden Bears. Danbury had two first-team selections in seniors Maci Brown and Mia McDonald. The MOP in volleyball in the fall, Brown averages 7.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 3.9 steals a game for the Lakers. McDonald averages 9.2 points and 5.8 rebounds per contest. St. Mary Central Catholic's lone representative, sophomore Allison Lill, received honorable mention honors.
