SANDUSKY — On Tuesday, Cedar Point construction crews installed the highest piece of the new roller coaster, Siren's Curse, debuting later this summer. At approximately 9:50 am, Adena Construction began lifting the tilt piece of track up to the top of the light hill tower. Weighing in at 45 tons and measuring 61 feet in length, the piece took approximately 6 minutes to lift into place. Siren's Curse tilt piece sits 160 feet above the midway. Once at the top of the tower, crews began fastening the track to the tower. Off to the side, additional pieces of track near the end of the layout could be seen already installed. Now that the top piece has been installed, the remaining 90-plus pieces of track should come together rather quickly. The Siren's Curse roller coaster will tilt at the top of the lift hill, locking guests facing directly down at the midway. Once dropped, the vehicles will travel up to 58 mph. In order to facilitate the construction of Siren's Curse, the main stage had to be removed in front of Iron Dragon, and the perimeter road past the marina is being relocated closer to the water. Siren's Curse is expected to open in early summer. Cedar Point is in a race to get the new Siren's Curse roller coaster to claim the title of not only the tallest, longest and fastest tilt coaster but also the first in North America. A similar roller coaster is also being installed at the new Circuit of The Americas (COTALand) amusement park in Texas.
