Facility gets $450K grant

SANDUSKY — A local organization will receive $450,000 in federal grant money to fulfill its mission of providing care to those in need. Family Health Services was one of three health care facilities in the state to receive grant money from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Workers intend to spend the funds on: • Expanding a free transportation service for patients to visit Family's offices in Norwalk and Sandusky both Norwalk and Sandusky where its offices are located • Providing additional care services for area senior citizens David Tatro, the organization's president and CEO said meeting the needs for those who lack transportation and seniors is paramount. "We know that downtown Sandusky, especially, is heavily populated with senior living, and yet there is no geriatrician between Toledo and Cleveland," Tatro said. "We plan to remedy that by not only creating adult-focused primary care for our seniors but by combining this with the nutrition program currently offered (by) our registered dietitians." The money is part of a $60 million investment from the Health Resources and Services Administration, an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, to expand the hours of operation for 125 federally funded community health centers nationwide.
