Fremont man charged for drug overdose death

FREMONT — A Fremont man was recently arrested for allegedly killing a woman by providing her fentanyl. On Dec. 5, Cory Funk, 39, of the 400 block of E. County Road 89, was arrested by the Sandusky County Sheriff's Office on a warrant for his arrest. Funk was indicted back in January by a Sandusky County grand jury on the following charges: • One count of involuntary manslaughter, a first-degree felony • One count of corrupting another with drugs, a second-degree felony • One count of aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony • One count of possession of a fentanyl-related compound, a fifth-degree felony According to Funk's indictment, the alleged crimes occurred on or about June 17, 2023, where he knowingly administered or furnished fentanyl, which "did cause the death" of a woman. As of Wednesday afternoon, Funk is currently being held at the Sandusky County Jail on a $75,000 bond. Funk pleaded not guilty at his arraignment hearing on Dec. 6 and has a court hearing scheduled for 10 a.m. on Jan. 15, according to court records.
