United Way seeks final push for donations

SANDUSKY — As the final days of 2024 unfold, the United Way of Erie County is rallying community members and organizations to join its final push toward a $250,000 goal in its workplace campaign, aptly named United is the Way. Since October, this powerful movement has galvanized government agencies, local businesses, nonprofits and passionate community members in a collective mission to create a stronger, healthier and more connected Erie County. For several years, the United Way has not met its campaign goals, yet it has continued to find vital resources to support community agencies through grants and the generous George Mylander endowment. These resources have ensured funding for impactful programs that strengthen the pillars of health, income, education and safety net services across Erie County. We are determined to break this cycle by building relationships across government, businesses, nonprofits and residents to help the organization meet its ambitious campaign goal and continue expanding its reach for years to come. The only way to reach our goal is by mobilizing the entire community, so everyone has a chance to thrive. I'm inspired by the support shown this year: from the re-engagement of local governments to the unwavering commitment of partners, like Goodwill and the Greater Sandusky Partnership. Together we are on the brink of transformational change." Local collaborations have played a pivotal role. Erie County municipalities stepped up with three departments launching workplace campaigns, and Goodwill Industries of Erie, Huron, Ottawa and Sandusky Counties initiated a Round Up at the Register campaign across its stores. Jason Stout, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries, emphasized the importance of this partnership. "Collaborating with (the) United Way enables us to create more pathways for the community to contribute to both our missions," Stout said. "This initiative, along with future collaborations, will be critical for sustainable progress and meaningful impact in our community." The Greater Sandusky Partnership has also lent its robust support, underscoring the United Way's vital role in regional growth and well-being. Eric Wobser, the partnership's CEO, said his organization is "committed to building a prosperous region by aligning resources across sectors. United Way of Erie County is a cornerstone in this effort. By removing barriers to education and opportunity, (the) United Way directly supports the talent pipeline and quality of life essential to lasting economic growth and community vibrancy." With this campaign, the United Way is prepared to fund new services like Ride United for transportation, free tax preparation for hardworking families and essential support for low-income households.
