Woman a 'gift' to hospital

SANDUSKY — Firelands Health recently named Marty Sawicki as its volunteer of the month for November. She's been volunteering at Firelands Regional Medical Center's gift shop for more than 45 years. Originally from Akron, Sawicki has lived in Sandusky for 49 years. She is married with one child. Sawicki worked at Akron City Hospital as a nurse for four years. Her hobbies include going to community theater shows and reading. She is also a Cleveland Cavs and Cleveland Guardians fan. And she's been active in the community, serving as a past board member of the Lange Trust of the Sandusky Library, Harlequins Sandusky Community Theatre and the Plum Brook Country Club Ladies Auxiliary. "One of her favorite memories from volunteering was the recent volunteer appreciation dinner that was Olympic-themed," according to a health care organizational statement. "After reflecting on her time at Firelands, Marty stated that she has been blessed with many excellent memories during her volunteer years. Volunteering at Firelands has given her purpose and friends."
