James and Joan (Fick) Mason anniversary

James and Joan (Fick) Mason are celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary. The couple were married on Nov. 28, 1959 at St. John Lutheran Church, Port Clinton, by the Rev. Harry Holzapfel. Joan and Jim were blessed with three daughters and three sons-in-law: Jody (Brian) Myerholtz, Jill (Bill) Schmidt, and Jennifer (Daryl) Walters. More blessings followed with 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren with 3 more on the way. Jim proudly served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Italy for 18 months. At Christmas, his mom sent him his Santa suit with candy and Joan sent him candy and balloons. He visited an orphanage and also a small village and the children and families in the village had never seen Santa. He was a Santa for over 50 years in Ottawa County and also some other areas. It was a real joy to him. Jim was a janitor at the new Port Clinton High School then became a Port Clinton police officer — a job he loved. He was then director of Sandusky County Detention Center. He retired and worked part time at Walker Family Funeral Home for several years. Joan worked at The American Bank, Lowell Peterson — Prosecuting Attorney, Mizener-Dryman Hardware and the Port Clinton News Herald. Jim also worked at the News Herald delivering bundles to carriers and stores.
