UPS center closing

MILAN TWP. — A place where many people, including locals, go to ship packages — and probably planned on doing so for the upcoming holiday period — will cease operations next week. A spokeswoman confirmed the impending closure for the UPS customer center, at 12614 U.S. 250, in the Milan area by Fin Feather Fur Outfitters. It's slated to shut down on Nov. 15. This only applies to the customer center, a place where people ship packages eventually going to a distribution center. Beyond dropping off packages, this location also offered other services, such as how people can print out shipping labels with a self-service kiosk available as well. At this site, many locals, however, complained about the lack of service provided by the staff. The UPS package operation/facility, located beside the customer center, will remain open. Across the nation, many other similar centers overseen by UPS have or are experiencing a similar fate. "We are closing select UPS customer centers to better align with our customers' preferences for more convenient and easily accessible drop-off options," according to a statement provided by UPS spokeswoman Regina Dalton. Dalton didn't elaborate on why the company believed closing centers would benefit customers. But other options exist for those using UPS. "We will continue our high standard of customer service through a wide range of resources that are available to our customers, including UPS drop boxes, 10,000 full-service retail shipping locations — such as The UPS Store and Staples — as well as UPS-authorized shipping outlets and providers to ship packages," Dalton said. Expanding upon a few points made, when examining the Sandusky area: • The closest UPS Store can be found in Fremont. • The closest authorized shipping outlet location can be found at Sandusky Shipping on East Perkins Avenue. • Several UPS drop boxes and access points, at retail locations, can be found around the 44870 ZIP code region. Visit ups.com/dropoff for a full listing. A Staples does operate from Milan Road (U.S. 250) in the Sandusky area. "Access point locations are available at independent merchants — such as local delis, pharmacies, dry cleaners and florists — as well as national partners, such as The UPS Store, Michaels and CVS," Dalton said. Both Michaels and CVS have locations in and around the Sandusky area.
