FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Edison improves to 11-0; Vermilion gets first playoff win

MILAN — The top-seeded Chargers took care of business against Johnstown Northridge in a Division V, Region 18 playoff win. Edison improved to 11-0 and will host No. 8 Wooster Triway (8-3) next week. Bryson Wittmer, Abe Hermes, and Cy Finnen each scored a touchdown on the ground as the Chargers raced out to a 21-0 lead. A touchdown pass from Hermes to Davin Wendt made it 28-0 and Hermes' second TD run extended the lead to 35-0 at halftime. Edison previously defeated Northridge, 36-0, in Milan in Week 4. Norwalk finishes the season with a record of 2-9. Norwalk 7 0 0 0 — 7 Buckeye 0 14 28 0 — 42 Clyde 42, Otsego 7 CLYDE — The sixth-seeded Fliers dominated the second half, rolling to a Division IV, Region 14 win Friday. Clyde improved to 8-3 and will travel to No. 3 Ontario (10-1) next week. The Fliers, who led just 7-0 at halftime, were led by their passing game as Jonathan Lantz completed 5-of-6 passes for 145 yards and Brennan Wilson was 17-of-26 for 143 yards. Each threw a touchdown pass. Adam Young ran 20 times for 117 yards and two touchdowns for Clyde. Otsego 0 0 7 0 — 7 Clyde 7 0 14 21 — 42 Vermilion 37, River Valley 21 VERMILION — The Sailors picked up the first playoff win in school history by taking out River Valley in Division IV, Region 14 action. Vermilion (9-2) outscored River Valley, 30-14, in the middle two quarters. With the win, the Sailors will face top-seeded Perkins (10-1) on the road next week. River Valley 7 7 7 0 — 21 Vermilion 7 14 16 0 — 37 Hopewell-Loudon 43, Margaretta 8 BASCOM — The 16th-seeded Polar Bears played top-seeded Hopewell-Loudon close in the regular season. Margaretta didn't find the same magic or more Friday as the Chieftains won convincingly in Division VI, Region 22 playoff action. The Polar Bears led 7-0 in the third quarter of the Sept. 27 meeting before the Chieftains (10-0) bounced back for a 16-7 win. This time, H-L led 23-0 after one quarter and 36-0 at halftime. Margaretta finishes the season with a record of 4-7. Margaretta 0 0 0 8 — 8 H-L 23 13 7 0 — 43 Seneca East 56, Western Reserve 20 COLLINS — The eighth-seeded Roughriders saw their season come to an end at the hands of ninth-seeded Seneca East in Division VI, Region 22 playoff action. Western Reserve finished the season with a record of 7-4.
