Report: TGI Fridays closes 50 restaurants

SANDUSKY — A chain restaurant with a nationwide presence suddenly shuttered dozens of its eateries across the country last week. But the lone local location appears to be safe for now. The (Canton) Repository noted TGI Fridays currently lists 163 open places of business on the company's storefront locator as compared to 213 restaurants in operation a week ago. And "that's compared to the 270 U.S. locations the chain had at the beginning of the year," according to CNN. Closures occurred due to those restaurants "underperforming," numerous media outlets reported. In other similar cases, companies often file for bankruptcy when closing a large chunk of its stores/locations/restaurants. As of today, there are nine TGI Fridays remaining operational in Ohio. This would include the Sandusky restaurant found within Cedar Point. This TGI Fridays, however, only operates seasonally. When Cedar Point is open, so, too, is TGI Fridays. In the offseason, such as wintertime, it's not. A TGI Fridays did operate on the mainland a few years back in Sandusky where Quaker Steak & Lube now does business from today.
