CASTALIA — Margaretta used a huge middle two quarters to dismantle Willard in Sandusky Bay Conference River Division action Friday. Margaretta (4-6, 4-2 SBC River) led just 7-6 after one quarter before a 21-8 edge in the second quarter pushed its lead to 28-14 at halftime. The Polar Bears then used a 22-0 advantage in the third quarter to win running away. The season comes to an end for Willard (2-8, 0-6) while the Polar Bears are playoff-bound next week.Willard 6 8 0 0 — 14Margaretta 7 21 22 0 — 50 Vermilion 26, Bellevue 12 VERMILION — The Sailors clinched their first 8-2 season since 1985 with a Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division win over Bellevue. Vermilion (8-2, 3-1) finished as runner-up in the Bay to Edison. The Sailors trailed 12-6 at halftime, but outscored Bellevue (2-8, 0-4), 20-0, in the second half. Western Reserve improved to 7-3 overall and finished 5-2 in the FC. It could be in position to host a first-round playoff game in Division VI Region 22 when the playoff pairings are released Sunday. In its first season back to 11-man football since 2020, New London finished 2-8 overall and 0-7 in the FC. Friday's game was also the final contest at Recreation Park. The Wildcats have played at the facility — located next to the village reservoir and Millstone Hills golf course as part of a campgrounds area — since 1970. A new football stadium is currently being constructed on campus grounds of New London High School, a little more than a mile across town. Danbury won the first meeting between the two teams, 30-18, in Fremont, but couldn't make it two-for-two in the rematch.
