WEEK 10: Perkins can win SBC Lake outright

Perkins has clinched at least a share of the Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division title by virtue of its win over Sandusky last week. The Pirates (9-0, 3-0 SBC Lake) will get a chance to win it outright as it hosts Tiffin Columbian (4-5, 1-2) in their final regular-season game on Friday night. If Perkins loses, the Pirates would split the league title with Sandusky (5-4, 3-1). For Perkins, Sam Schweinfurth has completed 97 of 148 passes for 1,541 yards and 19 touchdowns. On the ground, Isaac Bunts has had another tremendous year with 191 carries for 1,513 yards and 21 scores. Braylon Collier is the leading receiver with 41 catches for 626 yards and 11 TDs. Columbian enters with consecutive wins after being 2-5 at one point this season. Quarterback Zach Shawberry has completed 88 of 175 passes for 1,141 yards and 11 touchdowns. Masen Seitz boosted his season numbers with 28 carries for 264 yards and six TDs last week against Norwalk and now has 152 rushes for 809 yards and 10 TDs this season. Shawberry's top target is Johnny Bremeyer, who has 32 receptions for 563 yards and seven scores. Perkins is No. 2 in this week's Division IV AP poll and will host a playoff game next week. Columbian is definitely in the playoffs with a win, but could make it even with a loss to the Pirates. A look at this week's other area matchups: Sandusky at Port Clinton Sandusky has finished its SBC Lake schedule and wraps up the regular season on the road against a Port Clinton squad coming off a 29-26 win over Bellevue. The Blue Streaks (5-4) look to get back on track after a one-sided 37-0 loss to Perkins. Jason Henlon has completed 77 of 112 passes for 996 yards and eight touchdowns since he returned in Week 4 following knee surgery. On the ground, Makyveon Lately has amassed 491 yards rushing on 100 carries with seven TDs. Port Clinton (3-6) has slim hopes of the playoffs and needs a win against Sandusky to have any chance. Wyatt Yarbrough has completed 86 of 176 passes for 1,270 yards and 14 scores. Malakii Pinkelton and Yarbrough each have six rushing touchdowns this season. Yarbrough ran for 89 yards and two scores last week. Clyde at Norwalk Clyde got back to its winning ways last week, topping a tough Huron team, 20-7. The Fliers entered after a heartbreaking loss to Sandusky on the final play of the game the week before. For Clyde, Brennan Wilson has completed 79-of-115 passes for 1,027 yards and nine touchdowns while Adam Young leads the ground game with 119 carries for 614 yards and seven scores. Norwalk started 2-1, but has lost its last six games including four-straight by shutout. The Truckers scored some points last week to break up the scoreless drought, but lost to Tiffin Columbian, 47-20. Edison at Huron Edison has clinched a share of the SBC Bay title and can claim it outright when it travels to Huron this week. The Chargers (9-0, 3-0), who are ranked No. 2 in Division V, have been stout on defense, allowing double-digit points just twice this year. Offensively, Edison has run for 2,358 yards and 31 touchdowns. Huron (7-2, 2-1) is led by quarterback Landon Hohler. Through the air, he is 88 of 148 for 979 yards and 11 touchdowns. On the ground, he is the team's leading rusher with 102 carries for 566 yards and eight scores. St. Paul at Monroeville Monroeville seeks perfection and an outright Firelands Conference championship this week when it hosts St. Paul. The Eagles (9-0, 6-0) are ranked No. 5 in Division VII and have trailed for just 10 seconds the entire season. Monroeville has five consecutive shutouts, outscoring its opponents 268-0 during that span. Quarterback Evan Benfer has totaled 98 rushes for 1,181 yards and 19 TDs while throwing for 587 yards and seven scores. St. Paul (5-4, 5-1) started the season 0-3 but has just lost to Western Reserve in league play. Junior Landon Fries has 118 carries for 526 yards and nine scores while catching 28 passes for 392 yards and four TDs. Bellevue at Vermilion Bellevue has the slimmest glimmer of hope to make the postseason, but the Redmen need to beat a Vermilion team that has one of the best turnarounds in the state. The Sailors won seven total games over the past four seasons combined, but have matched that total already this season (7-2). Bellevue is No. 21 in the Division IV Region 14 standings. Ike Brown has thrown for 919 yards with four touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He is the team's leading rusher with 191 carries for 695 yards and nine TDs. Vermilion is led by its running game. The Sailors have racked up 326 rushes for 2,167 yards and 28 touchdowns. QB Aaron Mathis has 94 attempts for 687 yards and 15 scores while Evan Kuhns has tallied 94 attempts for 651 yards and five TDs. Willard at Margaretta Margaretta likely clinches a playoff berth with a win over Willard in SBC River play. The Polar Bears are looking to bounce back from a 14-7 overtime loss to Gibsonburg. Jake Bouy has settled in at quarterback for Margaretta (3-6, 3-2), completing 51 of 83 passes for 609 yards. Judah Keller is the leading rusher with 85 attempts for 338 yards and four touchdowns. Willard has lost seven straight after starting 2-0. The Crimson Flashes like to throw the ball as freshman Jake Rothhaar has completed 151 of 255 passes for 1,920 yards with 17 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. Paxton Flores is the top receiver with 54 catches for 719 yards and nine scores. SJCC at Danbury Danbury looks to make it three wins in a row when it hosts Fremont SJCC at 6 p.m. Saturday in Northern 8 Conference action. The Lakers (4-4, 3-3 N8) clobbered Stryker 64-32 last week. For the season, Tommy Dean has completed 55 of 93 passes for 963 yards and 14 touchdowns. Drake Turinsky leads Danbury on the ground with 68 rushes for 894 yards and 10 touchdowns. Danbury topped the Crimson Streaks (2-5, 2-3) earlier this season, defeating SJCC 30-18 on Sept. 7 in Fremont. Toledo Christian at St. Mary CC Two undefeated squads square off in the biggest game of the Northern 8 Conference season at 7 p.m. Saturday when the Panthers (7-0, 5-0) host defending league champion Toledo Christian (7-0, 5-0). The ground game for SMCC has paced the offense. The Panthers have racked up 2,170 yards on 250 carries with 32 touchdowns. Leading the way is Bryan Gibson, who has 102 carries for 978 yards and 14 touchdowns. Other big options for the Panthers include Grant Swain (59-579-7) and Josh Will (41-442-8). Toledo Christian has allowed just 35 points this season and has pitched three shutouts. The Eagles beat previously unbeaten Holgate last week, 62-0.
