Meeting the officers: Dylan Smith

PERKINS TWP. — Perkins police started a new process to shed some light on police officers serving the community. "Throughout the year, we will begin highlighting our officers as they reach their anniversary dates," according to a department statement. The series, published on Perkins police's Facebook page, kicked off not too long ago. Most recently, it introduced Officer Dylan Smith, who just completed his third full-time year with the force. A fun fact: He wanted to pursue a medical career before deciding to change his major and become a police officer. Due to this, his co-workers love to call him "Doc." Here's a question-and-answer session with Smith. Q: Why did you want to become a police officer? A: A police officer made a significant difference in my life as a child. I want to be that guiding light for others at pivotal moments in their lives. Q: What are some of your personal achievements while working at Perkins? A: I've enjoyed participating in community events and making a positive impact on our youth. I strive to connect with people beyond traditional policing, showing that we are here to serve in many capacities. Q: What are some of your favorite foods? A: Pistachio ice cream, Ritz chicken and Barra. Q: What do you enjoy doing in your off time? A: I love spending time with my family, engaging with the community and cheering on Ohio State football and Guardians baseball. Q: Are there any certain memories that stick out to you over your police career? A: How the community came together after Chief Donald passed. The support we had during that time reminds me Perkins Township has a great community who continues to support our police department.
