HALO Live raising funds for a medical missions trip

SANDUSKY — Diana Davenport, a pediatric dentist, and her husband John Davenport, co-owner of the HALO Live studio in Sandusky, will soon travel to Guatemala for a group medical missionary trip.The local couple wants to raise funds to purchase medical supplies for the trip during a fundraiser concert, "Evening with the Songwriters," on Friday.They hope the music-filled event with food, turkey chili and cornbread will help them meet their goal. A donation, of any amount, is all that's needed to gain entry to the concert. "In previous years, they helped an entire village of children with dental services," said Shawn Daley, co-owner of HALO LIVE. "They typically work 12-13 hours a day on kids nonstop."Evidence has linked oral health to several chronic diseases, including heart disease, diabetes and stroke. And, for many developing countries, oral health is one of the most neglected areas of health care.Before the church group of 23 can travel to Guatemala, they need help raising money for medications this year."This fundraiser is so important because it can help so many people," Daley said.Four artists will be featured on Friday night playing original songs: John Davenport, Kevin Obermeyer, Wasteland poets and Norma Jeane."Sandusky has a lot of musical artists," Daley said.
