Districts get career tech grants

SANDUSKY — Three area schools recently received state grant money to better support students seeking a career in technical education. Top state officials, including Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, recently announced that the state's most recent $29 million in funding will be distributed to 34 schools in 28 counties. Two schools in Erie County and one in Huron County received funding: • Sandusky Schools received $741,000 for its information technology/software development and cybersecurity program • EHOVE Career Center received $2 million for its criminal justice, exercise science, medical careers, construction, manufacturing and robotics and welding programs • Western Reserve Local School District received $544,000 for its software development program Schools can use the money to upgrade equipment to teach students in high-demand programs, such as engineering, manufacturing and construction. "Investing in our schools and making sure they have updated equipment for training is an investment into our students' futures," DeWine said. "Providing the opportunity for more schools to purchase equipment so they can train additional students will set them – and our state – up for success."
