Man facing ID theft, sex charges

PERKINS TWP. — A man who's allegedly in the country illegally is facing identity fraud and sexual crimes. Santiago Fonseca-Mora, 21, of Colombia, received charges of identity fraud and two counts of forgery, all of which are felonies. He is additionally charged with four misdemeanors: two counts of sexual imposition and two counts of unlawful restraint. Fonseca-Mora had recently moved in with a family living in Perkins Township legally on work visas. He had reportedly claimed asylum when crossing the border into the U.S. He had a hearing scheduled for September 2025 to determine whether could stay in the country, according to Perkins police Detective Joseph Rotuno. A female child living in the home reported to a school nurse that Fonseca-Mora allegedly pulled her into his room and groped her, Rotuno said. The nurse is a mandatory reporter, meaning the person in this position must alert authorities about alleged physical or sexual abuse that is reported to them. Perkins police then interviewed the girl and issued warrants for Fonseca-Mora based on her criminal complaint. He was arrested at a bus stop after completing his shift at a Milan Road (U.S. 250) hotel, according to Rotuno. As of late Friday, he is incarcerated in Erie County Jail under a $23,000 bond. He also has a hold order from U.S. Border Patrol. He has a hearing scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday in Sandusky Municipal Court, according to jail records.
