Huron, Sandusky, Edison move up in computer ratings

Huron, Sandusky and Edison made big jumps in the OHSAA's football computer ratings released Tuesday. Huron, which had a big comeback win over Tiffin Columbian last week, jumped four slots to No. 2 in Division VI, Region 22. The Tigers are 4-1 and travel to Port Clinton this Friday. The Tigers trail only Hopewell-Loudon in the region. Hopewell visits Margaretta on Friday. The top 16 schools in each of 28 regions in seven divisions will qualify for the playoffs. Postseason pairings will be set on October 27. Tuesday's computer report was the second of the season. Sandusky and Edison also moved up three positions in their regions. The Blue Streaks, which defeated Vermilion last week, moved up to No. 13 in Division II, Region 6. Sandusky (2-3) travels to Columbian this week before hosting Norwalk in Week 7. "I reminded them that their goals are still attainable — a home playoff game is what we want to get," Sandusky coach Jamaris Brown said. "There are a lot of (playoff) points still on the table." Edison is No. 3 this week in Division V, Region 18. That region is one of only three statewide with undefeated teams in the first five playoff slots. The Chargers are one slot ahead of former SBC member Oak Harbor. Edison also climbed to No. 10 in the Associated Press Division V poll, which was released Tuesday. The computer rankings of four area schools remained unchanged this week. Perkins remains at No. 1 in Division IV, Region 14 and No. 1 in the AP poll. Clyde is No. 5 in the region's computer ratings and travels to Perkins on Friday for a game that will go a long way in deciding the SBC Lake Division title as well as the order of teams in Region 14. "We know this is a big game," Perkins coach Jalen Santoro said. "If we want to win a Lake championship we have to beat good teams like Clyde. They have a great tradition and are coached well. We have a lot of respect for them." Norwalk also stayed at No. 8 in Division III, Region 10 following a 35-0 loss to Edison. In Division VII, Monroeville stayed at No. 3 in Region 25 after a 41-0 win over South Central. The Eagles dropped one spot to No. 7 in the AP poll. Three area teams dropped in this week's computer ratings. Vermilion, which suffered its first loss of the season at Sandusky, dropped two spots to No. 11 in Division IV, Region 14. Port Clinton fell two spots in Division V, Region 18. The Redskins, who host Huron on Friday, are No. 19 this week, a ranking that would leave them out of the postseason. Bellevue (2-3) dropped one slot to No. 13 in Region 14. The Redmen have an opportunity to pick up huge playoff points the next two weeks with games against Edison (at home) and Huron (on the road). Margaretta moved up to No. 19 in Division VI, Region 22 after defeating Woodmore, 26-7. It was Woodmore's first loss of the season. There are 707 schools in this week's 11-player football computer ratings. The 72 largest schools are in Division I, while the remaining schools are divided equally in Divisions II through VII (approximately 106 schools in each division).
