Community remembers Charlotte

SANDUSKY — About 25 people on Sunday gathered at Shoreline Park in Sandusky for a candlelight vigil for a girl who was recently killed. The vigil began at about 8 p.m. and lasted about 30 minutes. A speaker at the event named the victim as Charlotte Willow Patterson. She was 3 years old when she was slain late Thursday evening. Citing Marsy's Law, Sandusky police officials had previously refused to identify the victim. Two speakers spoke at the service and lamented that Charlotte's light was extinguished far too soon and unfairly. One of the two speakers, who said he lives across the street from where Charlotte was found slain, read a prayer and recited the Lord's Prayer before asking for a moment of silence. Two girls handed out glow sticks to those assembled. Police arrested Devin O'Brien, 29, of Sandusky, on Thursday and charged him with Charlotte's murder. He was scheduled for a 9 a.m. arraignment on Monday but that was postponed and neither court nor prosecutor's office officials could say when the arraignment would be rescheduled.
