Erie County secures financial distinction

PERKINS TWP. — For the third year in a row, Erie County's government won the coveted Auditor of State Award with Distinction. Less than 5% of government entities — including cities, townships, school districts and other jurisdictions — are eligible for the award each year. Eligible entities must file on time, in a specific way, have no ethical issues and not have significant costs that can be questioned, among many more specifications. Keith Faber, auditor of state, recently visited Erie County's commission meeting to present the award. Many local officials commented about receiving this honor: • Matt Old, county commissioner: "We treat taxpayer dollars with exemplary care, and Erie County residents deserve nothing less," commissioner Matt Old said. "We understand that simple mistakes can happen, but our Erie County team works every day to make sure we are protecting taxpayer dollars. This award is another acknowledgment of all that hard work." • Pat Shenigo, county commissioner: "As commissioners, we've worked to set a culture of hard work and dedication. I especially want to thank county administrator Hank Solowiej and his team in the finance department. Due to the work of staff across the county, Erie County residents can be confident that their dollars are being protected." • Caleb Stidham, county treasurer: "What an incredible testament of the hard work our staff produces each year. Very few local governments win this award let alone win it three years in a row. It takes the work of many dedicated employees across departments and agencies in the county. We are grateful for their devotion to protecting taxpayer dollars."
