Seniors compete in Olympic games

HURON — The Olympics traveled to Admiral's Pointe for friendly competition. The nursing home and rehabilitation facility on Cleveland Road hosted its first summer Olympic games on Thursday. Residents and staff competed along with others from Huntington Woods in Westlake and Mill Creek in Galion, sister facilities of Admiral's Pointe. "This brought people together for the camaraderie, the fun and the competition," said Lisa Hudson, activities director at Admiral's Pointe. Hudson said she holds fast to Foundations Health Solutions' mission of making a difference in the lives of those they care for. She strives to maintain everybody's independence. "There are so many opportunities and ways to grow and have fun at a nursing home," she said. On a beautiful, sunny day, the teams participated in five events: basketball, discus, javelin, darts and ball toss. They cheered on each other as they rotated through the different events. Among the facilities, Admiral's Pointe resident David Knittel earned the most points individually and was awarded a gold trophy. The staff team won the silver. Everyone had a great time, Hudson said. She hopes the games will turn into an annual event and get even bigger. "I'm so blessed. This is not a job to me, this is a calling. Admiral's Pointe is my home," Hudson said. "Taking care of the elderly has been my passion my entire life. "To see the love, compassion, friendship and joy on their faces is worth everything to me."
