A ribbon-cutting for Redwood

PERKINS TWP. — Local officials recently gathered to celebrate the grand opening of Redwood Apartments in the Sandusky area. Located on East Perkins Avenue by Strub Road near Eats N' Treats in Perkins Township, construction continues to build 136 units on about 40 acres of once-vacant land. The homes range in size between, roughly, 1,300 square feet and 1,600 square feet. Construction should end on all the units by Dec. 31. There are several different floor plans renters can choose from. Each unit will be a single-story unit with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and two-car garages. There are also many amenities included with these living spaces. "Redwood's signature single-story design combined with amenities like attached garages, personal patios and private entrances are unique accommodations in the rental world and help create the feeling of living in a single-family home," said Aryn Derryberry, regional manager at Redwood. "We are excited to officially open our doors to Sandusky and invite residents to come experience what living in a Redwood Neighborhood is all about." The overall private investment totaled $27 million, according to the original documentation submitted to Perkins Township's government. Rents, meanwhile, hover between $1,800 and $2,300, Redwood officials previously told the Register. "Housing is a major issue in our community. We had a study through our Firelands Forward program that indicated there's over 99% occupancy which means less than 1% vacancy in this region," said Patrick Shepherd, director of membership and engagement for the Greater Sandusky Partnership. "We thank Redwood for bringing this apartment community to Perkins Township." Bio blast Redwood executives offered up some additional insight about its company: • Founded in 1991, the company's overall portfolio boasts 18,000 units in the single-story, two-bedroom apartment variety. The Ohio-based company builds and manages its properties. • Many residents classify themselves as "empty-nesters" or parents with grown children who no longer live with them. • Redwood exists in 60-plus neighborhoods across Ohio, including in Norwalk and Vermilion. Redwood has more than 150 properties throughout the Midwest and the Carolinas.
