FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Bunts runs for 211 yards to lead Perkins to shutout win

PARMA — Perkins built a 28-0 halftime lead and cruised past Padua Franciscan 35-0 on Friday night. Isaac Bunts ran for three touchdowns, scoring on runs of 11, 15 and 61 yards. He finished with 212 yards rushing on 22 carries. Braylon Collier caught two Sam Schweinfurth touchdown passes covering 43 and 6 yards. The Pirates (2-0) finished with 21 first downs and held the Bruins (1-1) to four first down and just 54 total yards. Schweinfurth completed 12 of 18 passes for 183 yards. Perkins visits Rocky River next Friday. The extra point was no good, leaving Norwalk (1-1) behind, 10-6. North then got a critical second TD to take a 17-6 lead into the fourth quarter. Trailing 17-12 with under three minutes left, the Truckers got inside the North 25-yard line, but were unable to score the go-ahead points. Firelands' Andrew Pawlik returned the opening kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown and later gave Firelands a 20-14 lead on a 52-yard scoring run. Vermilion's Evan Kuhns scored on a 76-yard run right after Pawlik's kick return and Sailors quarterback Aaron Mathis ran 15 yards for a touchdown on the final play of the first quarter to give the Sailors a 14-13 lead. Mathis' 23-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter gave the Sailors (2-0) a 21-20 halftime lead. The Crimson Flashes scored the go-ahead touchdown with 7:55 left in a 24-21 victory to improve to 2-0. Willard opened the winning drive with a strong 52-yard return. The short field proved to be effective, as the Flashes closed the drive with a 24 yard TD pass from Jake Rothhaar to Paxton Flores. Willard started the game with a long drive. Facing a big third down, the Flashes converted to keep the drive alive. Eventually it was Rothhaar to Jackson Beamer for a 3-yard TD pass. Plymouth (1-1) didn't waste any time to take the lead. Ethan Keefe was able to break free for the big 51 yard run into the end zone that put the Big Red ahead of the Flashes early after the Lincoln Distl extra point. A few drives later, Willard took the ball in for a 26 yard scoop and score by Kellen Cooper to give it the 12-7 edge. With only two minutes left in the second quarter, Plymouth quickly recovered with a steady drive to end the half with a touchdown rush by Owen Wright to put the Big Red up by two points at halftime (14-12) Willard came out of the half swinging. Two big passes marched it down the field to grab the lead. Rothhaar connected with Harry Meisner for the 35-yard TD that put them ahead 18-14. Plymouth was then faced with fourth-and-goal from the 2 after a long drive, and a designed run by Distl from the quarterback position gave the Big Red the lead back (21-18) after he added his third extra point.
