Survey: Local area among bucket list destinations for families

KELLEYS ISLAND — A survey of families nationwide revealed the most coveted Bucket List Destinations in 2024, and a local region found a place on this list. HonestEco.org, a Florida-based eco-tours company, conducted the survey. "Visiting iconic destinations — like the Grand Canyon, Disney World or the Hoover Dam — are staple bucket list experiences for many families," a survey statement read. But "America's vast landscape is dotted with lesser-known adventures that are equally captivating and enriching," it stated. "Picture the excitement of swimming with dolphins in Florida, the intrigue of exploring the Biosphere 2 in Oracle, Arizona, or the charm of discovering the Thimble Islands in Connecticut." Among the 150 destinations listed, the Shores & Islands region — encompassing Erie and Ottawa counties — landed in the No. 56 spot. The listing specifically emphasized this area's islands, namely Kelleys Island and Put-in-Bay. It's the only location from Ohio to make the list. "These islands offer a variety of outdoor activities, including boating, fishing and exploring historic sites. Families can visit South Bass Island State Park and tour the Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial, providing a rich and diverse outdoor experience," according to the survey statement.
