20 animals abandoned

NORWALK — The Huron County Humane Society is asking for help after rescuing 20 neglected animals from one home recently. "Our shelter has been bursting at the seams for the last couple of months," the humane society wrote on its Facebook page this past weekend. "Now, in addition to our already taxed resources, we were called upon to help more animals in dire need," it read. "Our humane officer and staff removed 20 neglected animals from a home yesterday. We need your help." The organization is asking for donations of Purina dog, puppy, cat, and kitten chow. "We also need cat litter, bleach, laundry, soap and dish soap," the organization pleaded with its followers. "Monetary donations are always needed to assist with vet care and other expenses," the group posted. The organization's Facebook post received dozens of comments and more than 1,000 shares. Many of the commenters offered their assistance. "I am a groomer from Bellevue," wrote Julie Horvath. "I have a shop set up at my house. I would gladly get them cleaned up for just the dog kisses then they feel better. No cost because this breaks my heart." "Donation made," wrote Deb Ewell. "Prayers for the animals, thankfully they are in better hands now. Prayers for the people who did this, that they get the help they need as well. Grateful for our Huron County Humane Society and all you do!" A number of people also said they hoped charges were brought against the people who abandoned the animals. "What a sad thing," wrote Kathleen Ordway. "How can anyone do this to (those) poor babies? Absolutely horrible. I hope charges are brought against them." The humane society appreciated the support it has received. "Thank you for your continued support of our shelter and humane investigations department. We could not do what we do without you," the organization wrote.
