High school football ready to kick off a new season

High school football is back, and Week 1 has a little bit of everything. As a bonus, the weather forecast looks spectacular. Sandusky hosts Oregon Clay with the Blue Streaks welcoming first-year head coach Jamaris Brown. "We are ready. You want the boys to play hard and for each other, for 48 minutes if not more," Brown said. "They want to have a winning season. They want to win the conference and make a deep playoff run. Those are the expectations that we have." Sandusky also will dedicate its new turf field. Just south on Campbell Street, Perkins begins a season full of promise after advancing to a regional final last year. "You got the nicks and bruises and you're going against each other day in and day out," Perkins coach Jalen Santoro said. "You think you know where strengths and weaknesses are, but you really don't know until you play someone else." There are only three local matchups pairing area teams, including the Battle of Route 20, where Bellevue hosts rival Clyde. In Huron, the Tigers host St. Paul and Margaretta hosts Vermilion. Other games involving area teams include Edison at Firelands, Toledo Waite at Port Clinton, Norwalk at Start and Monroeville at Lakota.
