A-1 food at Five Fourteen Pizza

CASTALIA — Kyle Bartzen made a promise to anyone visiting his new restaurant. "It will be clean, and you will get good service," said Bartzen, who's worked at Cedar Point for 24 years in the amusement park's food and beverage department. "When people walk in, you want them to enter a nice, clean location," Bartzen said. "And if you have that clean location, your quality of food will follow along with that. And, with good guest service, they will come back for more." Bartzen, a 2004 St. Mary Central Catholic High School graduate, recently opened the eatery Five Fourteen Pizza and Treats in Castalia near Margaretta High School. Why the name "Five Fourteen?" It's a nod to the business address: 514 E. Lucas St. Previously a coffee and ice cream shop, Bartzen, of Huron, saw a listing for this location and decided to take a chance. "I always had some idea of owning my own business," said Bartzen, who intends to juggle this new venture with his job at Cedar Point. At the park, he oversees six managers and 20-plus food locations, ensuring aspects like cleanliness, order quantity and food quality. Bartzen underscored his menu features "fresh, quality food options." Beyond pizza — which consists of varieties like Buffalo chicken, all-meat and even vegan and gluten-friendly choices with a sauce recipe coming from Mike Speck — Five Fourteen also sells subs, sandwiches, burgers, wings, salads, ice cream, different types of french fries and more. "Everything is made in-house," Bartzen said. "Once we cook our food, it's going right out to our customers. We want it to be served hot and fresh." Bartzen enlisted the help of Antonio Lopez, his right-hand man. He's worked for more than a decade in the local restaurant industry. "Kyle has been a good friend for over 18 years, and I know he is honest, fair and will work hard to make your job be somewhere you're happy to go to every day," Lopez said. Bartzen and Lopez encourage people to visit Five Fourteen. It's open from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 11:30 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays for both dine-in and delivery. "We are here for the community, and we want to embrace them," said Bartzen, noting it's among the reasons why he's open later than most local restaurants and operational seven days a week. "We have a really good flavor of food here, and I think, with everything we have here, people will enjoy it."
