Grocery store closed

SANDUSKY — A Sandusky-based grocery store officially closed. Friday marked the last day for Save A Lot in a plaza on West Perkins Avenue not far from Sandusky High School. Signs posted on the windows read "Store closed: Please visit our other locations." The Register asked Save A Lot corporate for a statement. "We take the decision to close any Save A Lot location very seriously," the response said. "Unfortunately, as a result of changing market dynamics, we made the difficult decision to close the store (this past weekend). We are grateful to our customers for their loyal support of this location." The next closest locations are in Willard and Lorain. On Thursday, many people became aware of the store potentially ceasing operations. Different signs reading "store closing" alluded to the business shutting down as early as Friday. The store officially closed this weekend. When the Register reported about its possible closure on Thursday, many took to social media and expressed their opinions: • Van Bish: All the older stores being done in by newer stores and no privately owned stores at all. It keeps coming back to money. • Angel Johnson: Anybody know where else we can get Red Hots from? (It's) the only thing I went for. • Terri Esposito: I probably have been in there less than a handful of times in the last five years. I did not like anything about that store. • Alex Thor: Well, keep your store clean, organized, and price-friendly. Employ enough people to make the experience comfortable. This is tragic for the west-enders. Losing places to go without traveling to (U.S.) 250 but long overdue. • Bernie Bogan: I won't miss this store. I do all my grocery shopping between Kroger and Meijer. • Zee Castillo: It was so convenient to pop in to get items I needed. Sorry to see it go.
