Making a 'Big Splash' this weekend

SANDUSKY— A fundraiser for a beloved museum returns this weekend. On Friday and Saturday, the Dean Howman Memorial Big Splash Raffle will return to Battery Park, 605 E. Water St. More than $100,000 in cash will be given away. Other prizes include a Chevy Trax, a Ford Maverick, a Jeep Wrangler, a Harley Heritage and two Pedego Electric Bikes. Attendees must be 18 and older. The events benefit the Martimine Museum of Sandusky. "I know that the Howman Boat School would not exist if we didn't have the Big Splash raffle," event treasurer Dawn Weinhardt said. "We would have a much smaller museum, probably with limited hours." In 2023, the event was renamed after Dean Howman, the event's founder. Howman died in 2022. Bash Before the Splash From 5-9:30 p.m. on Friday, the museum will host a pre-event party at Battery Park, 767-799 E. Water St., Sandusky. Tickets will be available for purchase from 4-8:30 p.m. or until supplies last. Venyx will perform live music at 6 p.m. There will be food, drinks, 50/50 and side raffles. The main event The Big Splash Raffle will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday at Battery Park. Tickets will be available from 9 a.m. to noon or until supplies last.
