Ohioans can add driver's license, state IDs to Apple Wallet

SANDUSKY — Ohioans can now include their state-issued driver's license or identification card in their Apple Wallet. Gov. Mike DeWine and Lt. Gov. Jon Husted recently announced that state residents could add those cards to their Apple Wallet, which can be presented at places like TSA checkpoints and at certain businesses, according to a news release from the governor's office. Ohio also launched a free age verification app for businesses, enabling them to securely and privately accept customers' mobile driver's licenses and ID cards. "Ohio has always been a leader in innovation, and now we are the fifth state in the country that gives residents the option to securely add their driver's license to Apple Wallet," DeWine said. The free age verification app for businesses is called Ohio Mobile ID Check. The new app, which is available now, enables businesses to securely and privately accept customers' mobile ID in person using an iPhone. How it works Ohio residents can add their driver's license or state ID card to their Apple Wallet by tapping the "plus" button in their Apple Wallet app and following the on-screen instructions. Once at a business, a resident holds their iPhone or Apple Watch near the store's reader. The device will then display what information is being requested and, once the user approves it using the Face ID or Touch ID features, the information will be released and shared from the device.
