Having a blast with bingo

SANDUSKY — Senior bingo seems to be a massive success. On the last Thursday between May and October, Perkins Township hosts a senior bingo game at Strickfaden Park, 318 Bell Ave., Sandusky. It's free to join, and anyone is welcome. There's no entry fee or money required to play. Prize bags are provided to 12 winners, and same-day repeat winners can get candy bars. The most recent batch of games took place this past Thursday, bringing in almost 40 players. Jane Ann Cummings, the Erie County Senior Center activity director and bingo caller for the day, noted June's session brought in about 60 players. Since its inception in 2022, Perkins Township has partnered with the senior center to put on events like this — but bingo is among the most popular. Just ask participant Gloria Gregory. "I come here to be entertained and to win some prizes," one participant Gloria Gregory said. "I'm retired so I have spare time. I always bring a friend or my husband with me. It's challenging, especially when you never win the bingo games." Ryan Fry, the township's recreation manager, enjoys seeing so many people having fun."People love bingo," he said. "It brings together people of all ages, and it's a great way to showcase Strickfaden Park as the Crown Jewel of Perkins Township. "Most of all, these events help to improve people's quality of life," he said. "It lets them enjoy some quality time with friends and meet new friends. It gives these wonderful people something to look forward to every month." Want to go?
