Sitterly leads Hy-Miler Nationals wire-to-wire

SANDUSKY — Otto Sitterly led from start to finish on Saturday night at Sandusky Speedway. The Hy-Miler Nationals pole sitter never trailed en route to his first-ever win in the 100-lap main event of the weekend in Sandusky. Sitterly is a native of Canajoharie, New York, and has been the supermodified champion at Oswego Speedway nine times. On Saturday night in the ISMA event, Sitterly started alongside northeast Ohio's Dave Shullick Jr. and jumped out to the front. In a clean race with only two cautions, Sitterly was never really threatened and brought the win home for John Nicotra Racing. On a restart after a caution at lap 56, Sitterly burst right out in front, and the same was true for the second caution at lap 74. Mark Sammut, who started the race in third, finished as runner-up. Shullick held off Mike Lichty for third. Lichty previously won Friday night's Fast 40 at Sandusky Speedway after beginning the race in fifth. It was Lichty's first win of the year, and 18th of his IMSA career. He's a native of Ontario, Canada. The fast qualifier award was won by Tyler Shullick. In the Heat Races, Dave Danzer was fastest in the first heat, and Dave Shullick Jr. was fastest in the second heat. The ISMA/MSS Supermodified Series will take a breather before returning to action in New Hampshire on August 15 and 16.
